Mexico Travel Guide

Ancient ruins meet Caribbean coastline along the Yucatán — and the food scene alone is worth the trip.
Where to Stay
Tulum and Playa del Carmen offer beach-forward stays along the Riviera Maya, while Mexico City’s Roma and Condesa neighborhoods are the better base for food and culture over beach time. See our stay guide for the full breakdown.
What to Eat
Street tacos, often better than restaurant versions, are the real culinary center of gravity — look for the longest line of locals. Mexico City in particular has some of the best food in North America right now, well beyond tourist-trail guacamole.
Sample 3-Day Itinerary (Mexico City)
Day 1 — The Historic Center
See the Zócalo, the Templo Mayor ruins and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, then have dinner at a traditional restaurant in the center.
Day 2 — Teotihuacan & Roma/Condesa
Visit the pyramids of Teotihuacan in the morning before the heat and crowds, then spend the evening in the cafés and restaurants of Roma and Condesa.
Day 3 — Coyoacán & Xochimilco
Visit the Frida Kahlo Museum (book ahead) and the Coyoacán market, then ride a colorful trajinera on the Xochimilco canals in the afternoon.
Adding a beach stay such as Tulum or Cancún takes at least 3 more days. Opening times and ticket rules change — check each sight before you go.
What to Wear
Coastal heat and humidity call for light, breathable fabrics, while Mexico City’s altitude means cooler mornings and evenings than the coast. A light layer covers both.
