London’s history and the countryside beyond it — the UK rewards getting outside the capital at least once.
Where to Stay
London’s Southbank and Shoreditch give walkable access without Zone 1 prices. Outside London, market towns and smaller cities are considerably cheaper and often more charming than their size suggests. More in our stay guide.
What to Eat
A proper Sunday roast and a good curry — London has some of the best Indian food outside South Asia — say more about British food culture than the fish-and-chips stereotype alone.
Sample 3-Day Itinerary (London)
Day 1 — Westminster
See Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace, then stroll St James’s Park and finish with a classic pub dinner.
Day 2 — The Tower & the South Bank
Visit the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, eat at Borough Market, then walk the South Bank past Tate Modern to the London Eye.
Day 3 — Museums & the West End
Spend the morning at the British Museum (free entry), wander Covent Garden in the afternoon, and catch a West End show in the evening.
Opening times and ticket rules change — check each sight before you go.
What to Wear
Rain is a constant possibility regardless of season, so a real waterproof layer beats an umbrella in the wind. Weather changes fast enough that layering matters more than any single “right” outfit.
