What to wear in United Kingdom

Packing for the UK is really packing for unpredictable weather — layering matters far more than which season it technically is.
Spring (March–May)
Cool and rainy, typically 8–15°C. A waterproof jacket and a warm layer underneath cover most days.
Summer (June–August)
Mild and still unpredictable — sunny stretches mixed with rain, rarely far above 22°C. A light layer plus a packable rain jacket, always.
Autumn (September–November)
Cool, windy, and increasingly wet as it goes. A mid-weight coat and proper waterproof shoes.
Winter (December–February)
Cold with short daylight hours. A proper waterproof coat, scarf, and gloves — a stylish thin jacket won’t cut it.
One Thing Locals Notice
Shorts and flip-flops the moment the sun appears mark out-of-towners instantly — locals treat any sun at all as a bonus, not a heat wave. For the full trip breakdown, see our United Kingdom travel guide.
