What to wear in Mexico

Mexico’s dress code shifts as much as its geography — coast and capital call for genuinely different suitcases, and the wet/dry seasons matter more than temperature alone.
Spring (March–May)
Dry season, hot inland and warm on the coast. Light, breathable fabrics throughout, sun protection a must.
Summer (June–August)
Rainy season begins — hot and humid with regular afternoon downpours. Quick-dry fabric and a light rain jacket are worth packing.
Autumn (September–November)
Rainy season tapers off through October, drying out by November. Humidity stays high on the coast into early autumn.
Winter (December–February)
Dry season returns — warm, sunny days on the coast, but Mexico City’s altitude brings genuinely cool mornings and evenings even in the same week.
One Thing Locals Notice
Beachwear doesn’t translate to city streets — Mexico City in particular expects a step up from resort clothing. For the full trip breakdown, see our Mexico travel guide.
